BTCCSquare news:

North Korean hackers have embedded themselves deeply within the cryptocurrency sector, with over 900 positions now occupied by these infiltrators. Their global operations target companies across the industry, leveraging telltale red flags that dedicated startups are learning to identify.

The Lazarus Group's record-breaking crypto theft earlier this year heightened industry vigilance. While crypto crime rates remain elevated, concrete analysis of these infiltrators has been scarce—until now. Blockchain sleuth ZachXBT has uncovered more than $16.58 million in payments to North Korean IT workers since January 2025, averaging $2.76 million monthly.

These operatives, often hired as developers, receive monthly payments ranging from $3,000 to $8,000. Their capabilities continue evolving, as demonstrated by last week's $1 million NFT heist. The breaches predominantly involve crypto-exclusive or hybrid crypto-fiat payment structures, leaving blockchain trails for investigators to follow.
